Poppy in trouble at Barra Airport
The sky was grey this morning. The peoplsee from yesterday was right, so we decided to stay local. Where will we go? “We could go to see the airplanes land on the beach” said dad. Yeah right, I’m not buying that! Mum looked into here phone and said there was one due at 12:30, good try mum! We all headed down to the beach and were going to follow the coast to the airport. I played along, at least I’ll get a game of ball.
The beach went on for ages and I was getting tired of this charade I decided to dig my heals in. Mum, Dad, enough is enough, hold on they are not stopping, better catch up.
We got to the end of the big bay, at the end another, how long does this go on for? As we got to the end of it I met a friend, Max! What are you doing here! This is the third island we have bumped into each other, Harris, Uist now Barra! We had a play as I left I told him I had a plain to catch, “Funny” he said “So do I”. It started to rain, dad took his top off, I asked why you do that dad? “ It’s too hot the rain will cool me down” he said, fair enough dad, wish I could take my top off but its attached.
At the end of the bay was another beach, at the end of that one another. Round the corner of that one was the so called airport. I looked at Dad, see beach, no plains. At that point a car sped up the beach with lights flashing. The peoplsee in the car shouted to us to get off the beach, “Can’t you see the windsocks are flying?” We moved to the side and walked in the directions of the buildings. Then I heard a noise, it’s getting louder, it’s coming from the sky!
Well I never, an airplane swooped down and landed on the beach! Mum and dad weren’t pulling my paw.
We walked further towards the buildings when the car came back again, “Keep to the other side of the fence” he shouted. As we followed his orders Max and his mum and dad came up from the road. “We missed our plain” said Max, It will take off again I said.
After a little while peopolsees were on the beach and getting on the airplane. Soon it was making a loud noise and started to move. It went to the end of the beach, took a big runny, zoomed past us, took to the sky and was offski. Gone in 60 seconds.
We explored the airport looking for lunch but it was all closed for covid. With not much to look at we decided to head back.
As we were walking back along the beach the car with the flashing lights came back again! “Get off the runway” he shouted! “But the flight has left” said mum, “There is another two” he shouted! “Get off the runway when the windsocks are flying!” True enough another airplane swooped in and landed! Again a wee while later it was off again.
Better stick to the side mum, we don’t want the car with the flashing lights to chase us again! As we reached the end of the beach another airplane swooped in. We plodded back along the beaches to camp. The beaches had got a lot skinnier since this morning. Back on our beach I met one of my cousins, what’s your name I asked, “Poppy” she said, What’s the chances two Poppy the westies on Barra!
