Whitehaven
My eyes opened mmm another bright and blue-sky day. I nudged dad and he took me for my morning patrol round the camp. Play with puppy for a bit then back for breky. No time to slouch we’re off to the train station.
At the station we waited and waited no train. I went to explore the station, there were a couple of greyhounds on the station but they soon got board and left. Quiet station this dad.
When the train came, we popped on and found a nice space away from the rest of the peoplsees. The train soon passed Drigg and went on up the coast. At Seascale mum read out a strange warning sign, “ Beware of the adders”, what are adders? “They are a poisonous snake poppy, if they bite you, you will be very ill and have to go to the vet” mmm don’t like the sound of that, good job we are staying on the train. The train went on up the coast, suddenly the train was in the middle of a big factory called Sellafield. Its not nice here, don’t want to get off here! Soon it left and went back into the countryside.
We got off the train at place called Whitehaven, I could smell the sea, lets go! Let’s go to the sea side. The town hugged the bay and at the front there were lots of boats. We followed the sea wall round and at the end found some steps down to the beach. Beach only means one thing BALL.
I had a great time, I think mum and dad liked it too. We played all the way till the beach ended at the huge sea wall. Come on lets go up the steps, “No Poppy it’s too steep” shouted Mum, too late I was at the top! Hurry up lets go, mum and dad struggled to get up the steps but I waited for them. We went for a plod round the wall, it was really big and wide. It was also cold and windy lets get back to the shore.
What’s up there? Can we o up the hill? “OK” said dad, good I can stay off leash! We were going up the hill to a strange looking chimney. Mum and Dad were looking at something but I couldn’t see any thing because of a wall. I pawed mum then jumped up at her, “Ok Poppy I’ll put you on the wall so you can see”. I could see the beach and the see wall, I could see all the way to the station where we came in.
We climbed and climbed and soon were at the top of the cliff. From the path at the top you could walk all the way to Drigg, ….. we are not walking to Drigg…I’m not walking to Drigg, no way!
Mum can we go back I’m hungry! Back down the hill we went into town. On the way down I saw a rabbitsee! I was on it like a shot. It darted across the grass, I was right on its tail “POPPY! NO!” shouted mum but I was focused! The sneaky rabbitsee zigged and zagged and jumped straight into the brambles. Poppys are not daft, Poppys know brambles are spiky. Lucky rabbitsees. Down in the town the streets were busy with shoppers. Mum was on a mission. Fish and Chips for lunch. Sounds good mum. We searched every street in town NO Chippys. Mum it’s the sea side there is always chippys at the see side. Dad said we should ask her phone. Mums phone soon started to tell us where to go. Down a small ally opening into a square there it was…A CHIPPY! Mum ordered while me and dad sat outside at a sunny table soon we were tucking into yummy fishees and chips.
After dinner it was time to go back to Betsy. We walked back past the tesco to the train station. On the platform I growled at the sea gulls but was too tired to chase them. On the train I got a good long snooze.
Back at camp it was all kicking off! A tent peoplsee was singing and dancing and shouting, other peoplsees were not happy. The wardens came up and the tent peoplsees started shouting at them. Too much excitement. Lets watch TV, turn it up dad.
