Postcard from Matera

Postcard from Matera

HI wee yin, we got here late in the night, when we landed we took a taxi from Bari to Matera. It’s a very strange place. This was the view that awaited us from our terrace.

The town is the third oldest in the world and all the houses are built into caves. We found a great place to eat called 5 lire. My word Poppy you would have died if you tasted the mozzarella.

Even the church across from the flat is built into the rock, it’s called Church of Saint Mary of Idris.

Matera is built around two hills so lots of climbing. Its also split in to areas called Sassi. Our flat is in The Sasso Barisano.

For a small toun there are lots of nice places to eat and its very pleasant to walk about at nighttime.

Our last day before going to Bari to pick up a car we decided to explore the Sasso Caveoso. For lunch we were aiming for a place called Cafè Bistrot. It had great views.

Last night here we are going to Bari to pick up a car tomorrow. Mum phoned the nice taxi driver to take us to the bus for Bari Airport early in the Morning so tonight we are having a nice meal in Sasso Caveoso tonight. Will write to you in the next place. Hope you are being good for Uncle Alan and Aunty Vhari.
