Isle of Bute Overnighter
I knew Mum and Dad were up to something. The wee bags in the hall, total give away, they ore offski somewhere. Now what I want to know is am I coming with. Don’t get me wrong I like staying at granny and granpas, but, Poppys loves adventures. Bags went into Blue, mmm not a good sign, if they went into Betsy I would be coming, but Blue, mibbes aye, mibbes naw, mibbes mibbes. As Blue headed out the city my worries faded. Soon Blue was on a big boat and we were officially on an adventure. We are off to the islands.

It was lovely and sunny on the boat so we stayed outside.

As we got closer Dad pointed out where we would be staying. Looks a bit posh for us Dad.

We staid on deck till the captain shouted through the speakers to get back to Blue. Better hurry then.

We all got into Blue but instead of turning left to take us to the Hotel she sped off to the right. Where you taking us Blue? Soon I remembered where I was, I have been here a few times before, we’re going to the beach!
It’s been months since I have had a paddle in the water. It was warmer than new year but it was still bloody freezing.

The last time we were at Ettrick Bay the sky was dark and Mr Wind was being tricksy. Today Mr Sun was out and you could see all the way to Arran. Since it was so nice we walked the whole bay, I even found some new friends to play with.

At Ettrick Bay they think of everything. There is a café, it was shut right enough. Poo bag dispensers, not that special. Bucket and spade huts, seen that before but here, they even have a doggy toy box! How cool is that.

Since the café was shut we headed back to Rothsay for a spot of lunch. The Musicker was nice and cozy. The lady who owned it gave me a big bowl of water and some biscuits, yum. It was still warm when we finished so we jumped in Blue again and headed to Scalpsie Bay where the seal monsters live. To get to the beach you have to go down a long long path.

The beach was very quiet, I have never seen it so quiet. I patrolled the full length of it, but not one seal monster to be found. The must have known I was coming.
Mr sky got upset about something and started to get angry. I gave it a good hard stare. Dad, think it’s time to go.
Blue took us back to Rothsay but this time stopped at the hotel. ”I suppose we better check in”, said Dad. So in we went.
The Glenburn Hotel was nice, very warm and the peoplesees were nice. Poppys are even allowed to come to dinner……and breakfast! The only problem I had about the place was the bed. It was just too big. I had to get lifted on and off of it because even with a chair for a step it was too big. Time for a snooze before dinner me thinks.
Dinner was great, no more of that disappearing mum and dad malarky. At dinner we spoke with a girl who was on a field trip from university. A whole bunch of them were here to do archaeology. Dad what’s archaeology? “it’s all about looking for bones” he said. Mmmmm so I look for bones all the time, Poppys are archaeologists!
Next morning we got up early to beat the students to breakfast. Normally I stay in the room but here I can come too. Breakfast must have been good, I have never seen dad eat so much. That’s when Dad said we might catch the 9 o’clock ferry.
We got to the jetty tout suit, I think we are going to get on. We did. As soon a Blue was parked up we headed to the top deck.
As the ferry passed the hotel we could see that the big white coach the students were on was still parked outside the hotel. They won’t make good archaeologists dad, it’s the early Poppy that bags the bones!
The ferry sailed across the still water back to the mainland, it was a very nice boat ride.
One of the reasons for getting the earlier boat was football. Rangers were away to Celtic and Dad wanted to see the game. The weekend finished perfectly. Dad was happy because Rangers one 3-2. Mum was happy because she wasn’t going to work. Me? I was happy because I had a weekend of food, treats, lots of good smells and beaches, bliss.
